I am trying to locate my McMahon family from Ennis County Clare
My GGrandfather John Mcmahon and his sister Margaret McMahon came to Port Adelaide South Australia
John and his sister Margaret emigrated to Australia on the ship " Lochee" leaving Plymouth, England on 9/11/1876 and arriving at Port Adelaide on 1/2/1877. The "Lochee" carried a total of 524 people of which 315 were English 35 Scottish and 102 Irish. John was listed as an Agricultural Labourer
( On the same ship was Maria O'Keefe and her sister Elizabeth )
John and Margaret McMahon 's father's name was Michael - mother 's name unknown
Family recollections are that another 5 brothers went to America , and subsequently one of those 5 brothers came to Sydney Australia
I have no further information on any of the 5 brothers , or indeed the parents names
I dont have any further information location sin county clare except for Ennis
Any information would be so appreciated

Maureen:
The RC baptismal records for Drumcliff (Ennis) parish start in March 1841 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0782 You did not provide approximate ages for John and Margaret but I assume they were around 20 when they left Ireland in 1877? There is a baptismal record for a John McMahon June 10 1856 at Ennis with father Michael McMahon and mother Bridget O'Connor. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and this John had older siblings Joseph 1851 Catherine 1853 and younger siblings Thomas 1858 Ellen 1861 but no Margaret and no other brothers.
I then did a search for Margaret in Ennis with father Michael and the only record was in 1866 which seems too late for your interests.
I can expand the search outside of Ennis but can you let us know how old John and Margaret were when they left. Thanks!

Maureen,
Can you get the death record of your GGGrandfather. It should show the names of his parents. The surname Michael McMahon is common in County Clare for that period, but without the name of his wife it will be difficult to identify the family.
I attach two records for a "John McMahon" on the Lochee. One born 1855 and one born 1857.
Can yo delve further into the ships records to see if they are the same person or two men with the same name?
Best Wishes,
McCoy

Hello. My 3G grandfather Thomas McMahon (b. 1781, Co Clare) came to Canada in the 1840s with his wife Hannah Sheehan (b 1781, Limerick) and at least one son Martin (b 1836 or 1838, Drumclift, Co Clare). The son married Bridget Dillon (b 1846), and Thomas Joseph was born in 1864; he married Johannah Fitzgerald (b 1972, Ringmoylan, Co Limerick). Could there be brothers? How did you find the records about the ship?
Kind regards,
Launa McMahon
