I am trying to find out where my great great grandfather came from. I know that he was born in 1824 and lived in Auckland NZ from the early to mid 1840s. He was buried in an Auckland Irish Church in 1864. There is no mention on his death certificate of where he was born. He may have gone from Ireland to Australia before going to NZ. He was a Seaman and Sawyer. The Gascoigne name is spelt different ways (Gaskon, Gascoyne).

His real name was Noel Lalonge dit Gascon. He was from Saint Vincent De Paul (now Laval) in Canada. He was born in 1810 and died in NZ in 1864.
We can find no records on how he got to New Zealand.
