I originally posted a querie in 2019 seeking to locate where my Kennedy's may have originated from before moving to the Kingston upon Thames area around 1850-1860. Unfortunately, today I managed to delete both the querie and the response from Margot.
My 3GGrandparents were William Kennedy b.~1810 Ireland; d.1880 Surbiton, Surrey, England and Mary ???? b. ~1812 Ireland; d.1878 Surbiton, Surrey England. Their son, my 2GGrandfather was John Kennedy b. ~1834 Ireland; d. 1908 Surbiton, Surrey, England married to Mary Gogen (Goggin).
Based on DNA testing my Kennedy lineage is of Munster origin. I have been trying to determine the birth and marriage details for William and Mary and birth details of John. In 2019 Margot responded suggesting John b. 1867 to William Kennedy and Mary Darcy. I have since run a search for Darcy against my DNA results, for which there are few hits. Find my past has suggested Mary Johnston (96%), Mary Collins (88%) or Mary Duff (96%), but am uncertain how FPM is determining their match probability. When compared to DNA results, Collins generates the most 4-6 and 5-8 cousins compared to the other two. I also noted that a known third cousin proven via dna results shows up in the dna comparison for Collins whereas he doesn't for the other two.
Thoughts?
Thank you for any help

Hi Kennedyj,
The Mary Collins (88%) was in Borrsiokane and had a son called Denis, not sure if that is the same family that you are looking for, but they were in Wales in 1851.
I don't know where they went after 1851.
I am not in Ancestry now, sorry.Margot

Margot, thanks for responding so quickly. I should have been clearer in my posting. The Mary Collins (88%) referred to the marriage of William Kennedy and Mary Collins at Rathfarnham, Dublin on 10 Jan 1831. John Kennedy was baptized by the same parents at Rathfarnham, Dublin on 28 Aug 1836. My records suggest John was born in 1834 based on age at death, census data, etc. Is this them? At this point my confidence level isn't very high and am now wondering if Mary Collins is incorrect.
I am in the process of sorting my dna matches in an attempt to isolate those with respect to my Kennedy line.

Hi, ok, you did have Tipperary in your post.

This is where you will find information.
Catholic Parish Registers at the NLIThis one.............
Use "Church Records" for up to 1864. Then the Civil records after 1864. (Births up to 1919/20 (added after 100years) Marriages from 840 to 1844 and Deaths many!)
Welcome to Irish Genealogy - Irish GenealogyFamilysearch.org is another site to use.
I have checked early Census records in Dublin and they are not listed.Margot

Oooops. should read...........marriages up to 1944.

Margot, thanks for the help. Irishgeneaology.ie has been one of the sites I've used for some time, but was unaware of the registers at NLI.
Is the RootsIreland site of any value? I signed on with them years ago, but was unsuccessful.KennedyJ

Rootsireland has the same informaion as NLI (the Parish Books)
But you have to be careful because of typing errors, this does apply to all sites. It does help as you can search by name as in NLI you search by Parish.
I usually start with familysearch.org but I ignore any trees I find until I get results from the result list. Then go to the Parish Books.
I only start with the surname and year + and - 5 years then narrow it down adding the Christian name.
Ancestry is more help, when you search a name it does give hints and does list the Ireland sites. If they do charge, use the same info in the ireland sites. (some sites do charge extra)
If you ever see errors and you can update to what it should be, please do so, as I have done this lost of times, it does take a while to get them changed but they will be updated.
Hope this helpsMargot

Margot, would I be correct to say that NLI and IrishGeneaology.ie are working with different parish registers sets?

When I first used a site called ........Dublin City Records, a few years later it became Irish Genealogy.
NLI are the Parish Books. These are in Irish Genealogy, they are also in Ancestry.
I must add that not all records are there.
The Church records are Parishes in Dublin, Kerry, Cork and Ross and I just noticed Carlow. Another list says Date Unclear, but if you went to the NLI you may make it out working back a few pages.
If you look at the Church records in Irish Genealogy (Dublin Records) then go to NLI pick up the Parish Church in Dublin, you will see the same hand written information.
I was looking for a birth in another area some days ago, Family search had a different Mothers Maiden name to what Irish Genealogy had.
When I looked at the record in Irish Genealogy the entry above was the same name as in Familylsearch.
The the transcriber left the "repeater" from the entry on the previous record.
I always look for the original entry, if it's not on line then I have to pay for the record. (I usually make a list and call to the offices when I am over in Ireland)
My tip is work back from you, then you will get correct information.
Always look at the death records as you will see who was present at the death.
These sites are updated all the time, as I have found, so you have to keep watching them.
I am only a user like you, I have been helping people usually Tipperary and Limerick, if I see someone is at a Brick Wall then I try to help to knock it down.
Hope this helps.Margot

The reason for the question was I performed a baptism search on both IrishGeneaology and NLI for the same person using the same date for the Parish of Schull West. The parish record on IG appeared to be different to that of NLI for the same date. IG had the baptism but NLI didn't. In fact the month of November for the IG record was on the left hand page while November was on the right hand page for NLI.

As I said records are not in all sites. That's why you have to search all the sites.
To see what you see I would need a name please.

James, I had another look at this, I re-joined Ancestry. The only birth to a William Kennedy and a Mary Darcy was in 1837 in Kilbarron 18th June 16th line down https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634788#page/7/mode/1up May not be your John. Margot
