Hi,
I am hoping to find the birthplace of my great great grandfather, Patrick Kelly, who was born about 1830 and died in Romsey, Victoria on 6 March 1911. His father was Michael Kelly. His mother was either Winifred Kennedy or Winifred Ryan. Kennedy comes from his daughter's recollection of details told to her by her mother. Ryan comes from the informant on Patrick's death certificate, but I don't yet know who this was yet. Her surname is definitely one of the two. Patrick's granddaughter married a third cousin, whose relatives at this generation were Kennedy and Ryan. It is possible the informant just assumed the surname was Ryan based on the granddaughter's husband's surname.
Michael was from Menagha, Templederry. Winifred was from Nenagh. They had John born about 1828, at Menagha (?) and Hugh born 1836, who may have died at Nenagh in 1913. I don't know anything about John except that he too went to Victoria, Australia and is believed to have died there. Hugh married Margaret Ryan (abt 1840-abt 1870), their children were Winifred (1856), Honora (1859-?), Bridget (1861-1933), Michael (1864-1957), Elizabeth Mary (1865-1904), Elena (1866-1871) and Ellen (1871- .).
I'd appreciate any information on any of the above. Thank you
Karina

Hi Margot
Wow, thanks! I hadn't thought to look at Toomevara for Michael Kelly's death, but i also don't think i would have been able to get a death certificate so easily. Much appreciated!
I've attached Patrick's marriage record (married Eliza Stapleton on 19 Feb 1855. This document says he's from Menagha and she from Borris(oleigh), where her family moved to from where they lived at Killoskehan until about 1848, when she was about 16 (they were evicted from their farm and the house and buildings torn down by the sheriff's soldiers, their furniture and selves being put out on the road before. The Stapletons moved to Borrisoleigh and started a business as grocers (all from the letter recorded by Patrick's eldest daughter.
Witnesses were James Stapleton (could be her uncle) and Bridget Stapleton, her younger sister.I've also attached Patrick's death certificate - on that it says he was from Thurles and married at Thurles, but as you can see the register is Borrisoleigh. This is also where it says WInifred's maiden name is Ryan (son Tobias was informant), but his eldest daughter Mary recorded a letter with Kennedy as her grandmother's maiden name.
SO it looks like WInifred (Michael's wife) died after him? Can you find her death?
I have Hugh's death in about June 1913, if that is correct, but not confirmed. I have baptism records for Hugh's children.
I'm not sure if you can see my ancestry tree (it is public) - "Jonasson-Goding" - this is the link to Hugh's page: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/6685929/person/1671003…

Between The Tithe records and Griffiths Valuation records, townland names changed, land was sold off when people left Ireland or handed on to family relatives.
If you look at Griffiths Valuation all the red outlines and numbers are the 1850's all the black overwritten lines and number are 1820's.
You will be able to see how the townlands differ.Margot
