Francis Lally

The RC records for Islandeady parish do not start until 1839 so there is no baptismal record for Francis.

I searched the 1833 Tithe listings for Islandeady civil parish and there were five Lally records including a Francis Lally in Monagarraun townland which may be where Francis is likely from. The Francis in the Tithes could be his father or an uncle.

You may also want to consider a DNA test to see if you get matches with 3rd or 4th cousins.

Francis Lally went on to be a Mayor in Cornwall Ontario in Canada,  his family helped spearhead the sport of pospularity of the sport of Lacrosse and also link to a few of the first NHL Players in hockey :)

Was quite interested to come across your posting on this site.  Francis Lally was also my gg-grandfather, via his daughter Edith Lally, and I've been looking for family information on him as well.

I knew he was from Co. Mayo, and surmised that he likely came from Castle Bar area based on some distant DNA matches on the Ancestry site, but I'm curious about the more specific Islandeady connection... is that from family knowledge?  I'd never seen that until I read your posting the other day.

If he's the Francis Lally who landed in New York in 1822, there is still a pretty big time gap before he married Catherine Snetsinger in Cornwall Ontario in 1849 .... I wonder what he was up to for all those years?!  I haven't been able to find any information on when he came to Canada.
