I am searching for the parents of Daniel Sullivan (O"Sullivan) born around 1815. From an audio recording with one of his sons I know that his mother was a Delaney and that he was raised by the Delaneys. This leads me to suspect that his mother may have died when he was young. He married Johanna Sullivan (b circa 1826) and together with her mother they emigrated to New York in 1851. They named their first son Jeremiah. He was born in New York in 1853. The family was Catholic, not Church of Ireland. They probably were between Bantry and Castletown Beare on the Beara Penninsula. I have two distant DNA links with two Sullivans now living in Cork City but who grew up in Glengariff and Adrigole which is some confirmation about the location. The birth dates are very unreliable because Daniel or Johanna never aged 10 years between US census decades. Any suggestions about possible records or relevant family stories would be appreciated.

The free site www.irishgenealogy.ie (Church Record Tab) has records for the Diocese of Kerry and the Diocese of Cork and Ross. I searched for a Daniel Sullivan baptismal record pre-1820 with a Delaney mother and did not find a record. This link https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0019 is for Bantry RC parish but if you look at the map in the upper right corner, you can see the six parishes on the Beara Peninsula. All of them have records starting 1819 or later. When you search, use Kerry as the Location since all of those parishes are in the Diocese of Kerry. Bantry is in the Diocese of Cork and Ross so use Cork as the Location when searching that parish.

Hi Roger - I have a related question. For people born in Glengariff, is the SR District on Civil Births Bantry? I am looking for a family that was probably from Glengariff but I can't find one that matches the group named in a 1948 Chicago Trib obit for Annie Mahoney Driscoll (lived in Joliet, IL). Sibs are listed as:
Mrs Timothy Sullivan of Denver, CO (Johanna)
Mrs. Elizabeth Mc Dermott of Medford, MA
Daniel of Medford, MA
Julia of Ireland
late Mrs Catherine Sullivan of Joliet, IL
late Mrs Margaret Murphy of Medford,MA
I have found some of their info in the USA, but birthdates are pretty variable across reports. On the death of sib Catherine (1942) it says the father is Jerry Mahoney, but of course that could be wrong. I've looked through the baptismal books and thru the civil births but haven't been able to ID a potential family. With so many sibs born after civil registration - its frustrating. As she has a sister Johanna, it seems the only other possible name for Annie might be Hanora? Thanks! Margaret Bradley

oh. sorry. Annie b 1868-1871 and the entire range across kids is 1860-1880 but specific dates vary for all across census. Most seem to report dates between 1865 and 1875. At death, Annie is listed as b 1868, Johanna as 1872 and Catherine is 1871.

Just in case - I think name of sister as Johanna is incorrect. Do not know the name of Mrs Timothy Sullivan in Denver. The Johanna m to Sullivan turns out to be Johanna Breen.
