Hello,
I'm looking for any connections and information on the Spain family which appear in the early RC records for Moneygall/ Dunkerrin. I've collected all the names and placed them in my family tree. I'm descended from Hannah Spain who married Patrick Quinlan in 1827, they moved to Clonlisk by possibly in the mid 1830s.
Hannah's brother Rody (Roderick?) Spain (1799-1872) continued to live in Barna, marrying Mary Meara, and having a son (1828-1877) who married Julia/Judy Bergin. They has a number of children none of whom appear rot marry and died in Barna:
Rody Spain (1855-1934)
Patrick (1856-young before 1864)
Mary (1861- ?)
John (1862-1922)
Sarah (1864-1869)
Julia (1867-1945)
Patrick (1871-1943).... I believe he became a Priest and had a congregation in Bourney, Tipp.
I'd love to know if anyone remembers where in Barna the Spain's lived and if the house is still standing a picture. They all died 2 generations ago, but anyone about that heard anything about them?
Thanks ever so much,
Simon

HI Simon
My name is Dolores Whyte from Dunkerrin XO Heritage Group. I am looking at your query here and will get back to you as soon as I have confirmed details about the Spain family.
I live very near Barna, and I am fairly certain that the original Spain house is still standing, but I need to do some research on this to make sure that I am correct.
Our Parish email is dunkerrin@irelandxo.com
best regards for now
