Hi My ggg grandfather David Burns died in Liverpool on 1st October 1845 aged 80. He is listed as an army pensioner in the 1841 census.
I am trying to determine if he is the David Burns in the army record attached.
This David Burns was born in the Parish of St Patricks, Waterford abt 1763. He enlisted as a private in a "foot" regiment (damaged record) in 1787 then joined the recruiting staff in Hereford as a serjeant in 1796 (later promoted to serjeant major).
My David Burns had 6 children - one born in Chatham, Kent in 1792, then 5 further children between 1797 and 1807. I have records for three of these children being born in Hereford and records of the other 2 being baptised in York.
I do not know if my David Burns was Irish but I would like to think so…
I would be grateful for any suggestions about how to proceed.
Thanks

Hello,
There's a David Burns from Waterford, Chelsea pensioner, here:
https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/341624:3255?tid=&pid=…
But this David died 23 July 1852 so he is not the David you are seeking.
On the 1841 UK census, your David is said to have been born in Ireland. So it seems he was Irish, which I believe you were trying to determine.

Thanks Patricia.
I'm afraid I can't access that link - I have to use a library version of Ancestry for Irish records. If you could remember the search criteria that you used that would be great.
