My maternal family name is Shevenan, a very rare name with unfortunately not many records relating to it at all. What I have found is centered around Co. Galway and Roscommon, plus some emigration records of journeys to America (New York) and Australia (Tasmania). But very little else and nothing to connect any of the separate people or families with each other. Would be very grateful for any information if anyone has encountered a Shevenan/Shevnan/Shivenan.

Hi Sarah
Boyle, Roscommon has Surnames Shevnan / Shevnin / Shevrian.
What are your family names ? It may be possible to link with other Surnames in the area.

Hi Gerard, thanks for that further info, I'll have a look around Boyle too. I have traced my ancestry in Australia back to a Michael Brennan who was convicted of robbery in King's County/Offaly and transported to Tasmania in 1851. Seems like he changed his name from Brennan to Shevanan/Shevenan once in Tasmania, perhaps after he was freed. Maybe Shevenan/Shevanan/Sheviran/Shevnan etc was his mother's maiden name.
Regarding other family names, unfortunately I have no other info on him or his life or family in Ireland before transportation.
