I'm trying to find more information about my ancestor Samuel Miller who left Ireland on board the Parland in 1838 bound for Australia.
Attached is a photo of his ship info.
I can't find the Townland. It looks like Tullyatrush, Donegal.
Sincerely yours,
Alana Halsey.

https://www.libraryireland.com/topog/subsm.php This site may help you with a history of Donegal and I found a great map but Tallyatrush was just four or five photos showing small villages, I guess that they were all parts of another area in Donegal or perhaps it is a pre famin village?
n the Ireland, Tithe Applotment Books, 1805-1837 there is a Samuel Miller listed in the Tithes; this was a tax paid to the Churchand was a great hardship for men to find, sometimes the Tithe was more than their piece of land and income was worth. Many left the country to avoid the cost.
There are many Samuel Millers in Donegal now or certainly since 1838 but I have been unable to find the boat that you mention or any Samuel born after 1800 in Donegal
Is there anything else that you know that might help in your search; the Australian authority is great for records of incoming people, I have many family members there. Have you dealt with anyone in Boston, how do you know the ship name?
I will keep looking for you but meantime check the two sites that I have put here, they may help you

Dear Jennifer Jean.
I hope you are well.
Thankyou for your answer. Sorry this is over a year since. I find the Ireland xo site difficult on my mobile and I actually went blind with cataracts after your answer. I had surgery but still something is wrong.
Anyhow Samuel was born in 1798. I found the ship through passenger lists of Australian arrivals. Parland docked in Sydney and Samuel lived in the Illawarra area as a farmer.
Parland left from Londonderry Saturday the 2nd of June 1838 and arrived Sydney Tuesday the 2nd of Oct 1838. There was a port of call at Lech Foyle.
His father was John Miller born 1734 and mother Mary Hunter.
Samuel also married a Mary. Unknown surname. They had 8 children. My great, great grandmother, Susan was 2 when they came to Australia. I have a photo of Samuel, and my brother looks just like him. They were Presbyterian so I think perhaps Scotch Irish.
Susan married an Edward Gibson also from Enniskillen. Edward was born in 1835. His father John Gibson was born 1814 in Enniskillen. John married Susan Allen in 1834. They had 9 children. John died in 1864 in Newtownards, Down, aged 50.
That's about all that I have found.
I've never been to Ireland. Want to someday. So I don't know where these places are except what I see on google maps.
Thankyou for helping me,
Alana Fae Halsey.
