My husband's great grandfather James Clendennen came to South Africa late 1800's.   We know he had a brother Valentine who came with him but later went to America.   There are still Clendennen's in Ireland.  Really would like to trace the family but don't know what County or Parish they came from.   I did click on Kerry but have found nothing and don't know how to change this to "any".   Can anyone help with the Clendennen Family please?   Thank you

  • Hi,

I looked at the 1911 census and there were only 9 Clendennen's in Ireland - all in Kerry. Here is the website for both the 1901 and 1911 census in Ireland:

  • Hi,

My GGGGrandmother was Mary Anne Clendennen, her father was Adam Clendennen and her mother was Dinah Switzer. They lived in Aughrim,Moyvane,County Kerry.I believe they are the Clendennen family that you are trying to trace. I know that Mary Anne had brothers (Adam,Arthur,Valentine,George,Christopher ) and at least one sister named Eliza. I know that several of her brothers emigrated to South Africa. The Clendennen name is actually a form of the Scottish name Glendinning.

    I hope that this helps.
