I am following up on the family of Anne Howard who was born in 1835 to John Howard and Margaret Cooney. She is my wife's great grandmother and married Patrick Powell in 1857.
She and her siblings have their townland listed as Coulee on their baptism records. Also the marriage record for John Howard lists his residence as Coultee.
Anne's marriage record says she is from Knockadoon.
However, I have been unable to locate Coultee anywhere on a map.
Is anyone able to tell me where Coultee was / is?
Thanks in advance.

Tim,
Coultee is a townland in Tulla parish, as listed in the Tither Applotmenty Books at this link http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…. There is a townland Cloonteen in Tulla currently that could equate to the area? I note that Knockadoon is also in Tulla. Hope this is some help.
Best wishes, Kieran

Hi Tim:
Thank you for your message board post. I am one of the local volunteers here in Tulla and I have just been alerted to your message. Yes, the Howard family was in the Coultee area of Tulla. This townland is located not too far from the village. The location is close to the Knockadoon townland, and was sometimes referred to as being part of Derrymore townland.
It appears that Anne had several siblings and you will note these on the parish baptism register which has been transcribed and is available on the Clare Library website at this link: https://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/tulla_parish.htm
There are also several headstones for the Howard family of Rannagh on the Historic Graves website. The link is here: https://historicgraves.com/graves-search?field_name1_value_1=&field_surname1_value=Howard&field_year_d1_value_numeric=&field_year_d1_value_numeric_1=&field_inscription_value=&field_stonemason_value=&field_graveyard_ref_nid=26508&field_type_value=All&field_mt_property_one_value=
You will note that the townland of Rannagh is quite close to Derrymore, Coultee and Knockadoon. I believe that these families were all connected at one time.
Please feel free to contact me at this email address: tulla@irelandxo.com if you need further information.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!
All the best,
Jane
