I am looking for information on the O'Flynn / Flynn family of the Townland of Kiltomain, Parish of Tibohine, Union of Castlerea, Barony of Frenchpark, County Roscommon. I have a record of Michael (O)Flynn a bankrupt in 1817. I also have a record of his son Roderick O'Flynn his son a Captain in the 88th Regiment who died around 1859. Roderick lived with his brother Michael who is recorded as looking for outdoor relief in 1863 (which was refused) as he had been helped by his brothers army pension previously.
Michael O'Flynn death is recorded in 1867 age 80 in the workhouse Castlerea.
This family had leases for lives of Kiltomain and Creevy and also land in Lecarrow, Keeltys Park, and Gortnabrone parish of Drimatemple close to the village of Ballintubber County Roscommon.
Any help regarding location of their home in the Townland of Kiltomain or of any relatives of this family very welcome.

Patrick O'Flynn

  • Patrick:

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation for Co. Roscommon shows a John Flynn in Kiltymaine townland. He was leasing 4 acres of land with a house and 5 acres of bog. No other Flynns in Kiltymaine. There were no Flynns in Creevy. More details on the Griffths can be found at askaboutireland.ie

There were no Flynns in either townland in the 1901 census.

  • Hi Roger.many thanks I hadn't noticed that a John Flynn was recorded in Griffiths for Townland of Kiltomain.
I will have a closer look at that.
I am also looking for burial place for this family. Kilooran is the nearest graveyard to Kiltomain so if anybody has list of memorials there I would appreciate.
It is possible that this family had come origionaly from Caher and Dalefield Parish of Kilkevin and that maybe their burial place there, however I haven't found a memorial.
