My 2nd gr grandfather Patrick Madigan.

The earliest record I can find for him is a marriage entry to my 2nd gr grandmother Mary Cronin/Curnan/Cronan(e), dated 10 Jan 1842 in Lanark, Ontario, Canada. It has been said that the original family name for Mary was Cummane (?). I have zero connection to that name but do have Cronin and Cronan.

On this entry he states his parents are Daniel Madigan and Margaret Dooly, County Limerick (no Parish mentioned). It also states that Mary is the daughter of the late Mr Thomas Cronane and Mary Connell of County Kerry (no Parish mentioned).

I have confirmed 5 children for this couple

Margaret Madigan born 1842 in Mount St Patrick, marrying a James Comerford in 1865, Brudenell, Ontario

Daniel Madigan born 1844 Ontario, marrying an Ann Burns by 1873. She passed in 1884 and he remarried a Margaret Owens

Johanna Madigan born 1845 Mount St Patrick, marrying a Robert Brennan in 1870

Thomas Madigan born 1846 Mount St Patrick, marrying an Ellen Langford 

and finally my Great Grandfather Cornelius Madigan born Ontario, Canada, marrying Catherine Sullivan in 1879.

I am looking for anyone who may have confirmation of either Patrick or Mary in their respective homeland. I have spent many hours looking and it has eluded me.

    I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any Madigan baptismal records with father Daniel Madigan and mother Margaret Dooly. Likely Patrick was born prior to 1820 and the majority of Limerick RC parishes have records starting later than 1820.

    For Mary Cronane/Cronin, I searched on Roots Ireland and also on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie with no success. Many of the Co. Kerry parishes also have records starting later than 1820.

    Have you considered DNA testing? Many you will have matches that might provide some additional info on the origins of your Madigan and Cronane families in Limerick and Kerry.
