I'm trying to locate my husbands family. His gg grandfather Patrick Shanahan wa born in Barna in 1880 to Michael and Annie Harrigan/Hourigan. Patrick moved, lived and died in South Wales in 1959. We are trying to trace Patrick's family in this area. Please read the ancestor information for details.
We are visiting Ireland in June 2022 and would like to visit the Church he would have attended and to explore where his siblings may have lived and died.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sue:
Michael and Anne were married November 23 1869 in the parish of Pallasgreen and Templebredin/Templebraden. This RC parish covers part of Co. Limerick and part of Co. Tipperary. The presend day church in Pallasgreen is St. John the Baptist and the Templebraden church is St. Brigid. Barna must be a local place name rather than a townland,
According to the subscription site Roots Ireland, Patrick had the following siblings: Michael 1871 Johanna 1872 John 1874 Mary 1877 Bridget 1882 William 1884 Catherine 1886 All records showed Co. Limerick so likely they lived closer to Pallasgreen.
I located a Shanahan family in Treanamanagh townland in Grean civil parish in Co. Limerick which may be your family. See links to 1901 and 1911 censuses

See 5th link for 1915 death record for Michael Shanahan

I did not locate a record for Anne Shanahan.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for the information above. This is definitely my husband's family as this confirms some of the research I have found. I think I will have to sign up to Roots to find out more on the siblings as I haven't been able to find anything out on the genealogy site on them. Would you happen to know if there is a graveyard at either St John's or St Bridgid's? Also if there are any photo's of gravestones for these churches for me to check?
Did you see anything else about the grandson Joseph who recorded Michael's death? I think he is John's son as both are residing in Traenmaengh on the 1911 census and John is a widower. John was in Wales on the 1891 census and I have found him back in Wales on the 1939 England and Wales census still a widower, and he is also mentioned in Patrick's obituary in 1952 which identifies him as living in Wales.
Does the residence in Traenmaengh still exist? Any idea how I may find this out if you don't know?
Sorry for the questions, this research is still new to me as Ionly began this journey in February.
Thanks, Sue

Sue:
There are at least two cemeteries that may be of interest. Old Pallas cemetery is the closest to where the Shanahan's lived. St. Columba's cemetery is also nearby. There may not be a headstone or marker for your family depending on the how well to do they were and could they afford a marker. https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/old-pallas/li-opls
I'm not local ( I live in the States) so I don't know if the residence is still standing. Also, did not locate a death record for John Shanahan or a marriage record for Joseph.
