Roger:  below is your reply from March 7.  After doing a little more research about Fenton James Delaney or James Delaney  it looks like the 1842 record is probably the most accurate. Whatever you can share about that record would be very helpful. Thanks again.  Gary

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and the earliest Fenton Delaney birth/baptismal record in Co. Laois was in 1864.

There was a January 1 1841 baptismal record for a James Delany in Aghaboe RC parish with father Mark Delany and mother Mary Dunn. There were also two James Delany baptismal records in 1839 and one in 1842 with mother Mary but none in the month of March.

Have you considered DNA testing. Possibly you will get matches that might have more info on your Delany line.

  • Val-  Not sure at this point.  My relative, Fenton James Delaney's,  mother was named Mary, (year of birth1808) but I dont have a last name for her or a name for her husband.  I was hoping to narrow it down by obtaining Fenton's baptismal records from a parish in County Laois.    Gary

  • Gary:

The 1842 record was in Rathdowney RC parish father William Delany mother Mary Delany  I would assume that Mary's maiden name was also Delany.

  • Gary, thanks for you reply, I was hoping your Delaney may have been a close match. Have you done your DNA I used Ancestry but the people I got in touch with never replied to my questions. I’m thinking perhaps your Fenton James may  be a link I’m looking for. With a bit of luck someone else may get in touch. Cheers Val

  • You're welcome.  I haven' tried the DNA thing yet.  I'm very confident on the Delaney line but not clear on Fenton's life in Ireland before he emigrated to Canada.  What I'll do is put together an email with all the information I have in Fenton and upload it here so you can see.  I also reccomend FamilySearch.org as another very good resource and it's free.  If you look up Fenton James Delaney, it gives you a good record.   Gary
