Hello all - Going through Dingle penninsula baptismal records (Mostly Annascaul) I've found quite a few with two letter "first names" such as MA GRIFFIN. First I thought "MA" was a nickname for "mother" (!?) because it was so common in the records, but then I found things like BA NEAL. Next I thought maybe they are the first two letters of first name, or first and middle name initials. Cases like JS GRIFFIN suggest the latter. Any thoughts on these two letter entries? IF they are initials, is there any source to find which common names would likely match the initials? Perhaps MA is "Mary Agnes" but I can't think what BA or JS would be.

Thanks in advance!

Michael Thomas (my grandma was born to a Griffin from Castlegregory and a Callaghan from Tralee )
