Looking for relatives of Anne Sullivan born circa 1837 in Athlone, Westmeath, Ireland.  She sailed on the Tipoo Sahib to Sydney in 1850 the last Irish Famine girls ship to depart Ireland.  Her parents were Patrick (1809-1850) and Bridget (nee murphy?? 1809-1885).

  • Blinky:

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not locate a baptismal record for Anne Sullivan with the parents names you provided. I searched for all of Ireland and not just Co. Westmeath. I also limited the search to Anne Sullivan with father Patrick in Co. Westmeath and the closest record was in 1824.

I assume you do not have any other information on Anne and her family.

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • At the Irish Famine Memorial (link below), Ann Sullivan is said to be from Athlone, CO. ROSCOMMON, not Co. Westmeath. I hope this is helpful.

  •

I had checked Co. Roscommon. No Anne Sullivan baptismal records with father Patrick.

  • Yes Roger I have a DNA test on Ancestry and it was amazing becasue it enabled me to determine who the father of Anne's baby was (ie my great great grandfather).

William Jacka (1844-1890) came to Aust with his wife Catherine Hosking (1843-1931).  William and Catherine seperated and William linked up with Anne Sullivan in Bulli NSW.  Their son William (1876-1943) is my great grandfather.  William and Catherine had a son John Jacka and moved to Fiji.  My DNA was a perfect match with descendants of John Jacka.  We know very little about Catherine and William other than what I just mentioned.  I have William and Catherines MC attached.

  • At rootsireland, I didn’t find your Anne, but I did discover a Thomas Sullivan, baptized in the RC parish of St. Peter’s Athlone, Roscommon, on 14-Jul-1828.

His parents were Patrick Sullivan and Brigid Hanly. Sponsors: Michael Kelly, Mary McCawley.

    Perhaps Thomas was Anne's’ brother?

    I hope this is helpful.
