My GGG Grandfather was
Peter Keane (1856c – 1911)
Parents: Denis Kane & UNKNOWN
Married 27 April 1885 at Legan Parish to MARY ELLEN LEDWITH
Witnesses: Bernard Cormack and Maria Keegan
Possible mother: Anne Kane. She is listed in Griffiths Valuation as the tenant of land in Henfield.
In the 1901 census "my" Peter Keane family was living in Henfield (Glenlough, Westmeath).
In the 1901 census I found a Denis Keane living in Stongaluggaun (Glenlough, Westmeath).
But in the 1901 Denis Keane house, there is a son named Peter Keane. So, this Denis Kane is not the father of "my" Peter. The wife of this Denis Keane was "Margret".
In 1909, the will and estate of Denis Keane of Stongaluggan was granted to Peter Keane.
In February 1887 there is are two deaths:
Anne Keane (age 63) of Stongaluggaun and Anne Keane (age 24) of Henfield. They are listed as the mother and the sister of Peter Keane.
Does anyone have any idea where I can go from here, or what you suggest to find who my Denis Kane was, and who his wife was as well?

I think your Denis Keane died before the Griffiths Valuation (1853) and his widow Ann who was likely somewhat young took over the lease at Henfield and was shown in the Griffiths. There were no other Keane/Kane records in Rathaspick civil parish in the Griffiths.
I found the 1868 civil birth record for Margret Keane shown as part of the Denis Keane family in Stongaluggaun in the 1901 census. In 1868, they were living in Ballynacargy which is about five miles southeast of Stongaluggaun

In 1887, as you indicated, Anne Keane widow died at Henfield and her son Peter (your ancestor) was the informant. I think 63 was probably understated for ther age.
Also, Anne Keane age 24 sister to the unmarried Peter Keane and not your ancestor at Stongaluggaun also died.
I think the two families may have been related. Possibly your Denis Keane was a first cousin to the Denis Keane in Stongaluggaun (both named after their mutual grandfather?). At some point after 1868 and before 1887, the Denis Keane from Ballynacargy moved to Stongaluggaun. What you need is access to the Griffiths Valuation revision books which are at the Valuation Office in Dublin. Those books would show when Denis Keane (not your ancestor) took over the lease at Stongaluggaun.

Thank you so much. I have been thinking about this a lot and will try to locate a record for the Denis - Anne marriage or any births. And of course hopefully a trip up to Dublin!
My question is: Even though two Anne Keanes were reported on the same day having died, and the person reporting the deaths were both named Denis Keane, you think that perhaps BOTH Denis Keanes went to report this on the same day?
I also think they could be cousins, its just hard to wrap around in my head this idea of two people with the same name going to report on the same day the deaths of two women with the same name (although we know the two women are NOT the same person).

I agree this is a weird situation. Two first cousins with the same name reporting a death in their family on the same day with the deceased having same name (although they died 13 days apart).
