Hi - I was wondering if you had any advice on tracing Presbyterian records. I've been researching my cavan family and I believe a branch were Prebyterians - they lived in the townlands of Corglass, Lisball, Lisnalea in the Bailieborough area so I think that they probably conducted their births and marriages at Corglass Prebyterian. I've managed to reseach back to 1860's but without church records it's been hard to go back much further with much certainty. Im a member on Ancestry and they don't appear to have any Presyterian records from that time period (if at all). Do you know of any other websites that might have records from Corglass? I'm happy to pay a subscrition if necessary. The family I'm looking into is the family of John Hanna born 1855 and his parents John Hanna (?1813 - 1874) and Essie Campbell (?1818 - 1899). Thanks!

Hi Evie,
I will see if I can help you.
On the following site you will find more information to locate records https://www.presbyterianireland.org/Utility/About-Us/Historical-Informa…
On this site it states' Until 1782 it was illegal for Presbyterian ministers to conduct marriages and not until 1845 were all restrictions lifted on marriages performed by Presbyterian ministers. Therefore it is always advisable to check the registers of the local Church of Ireland parish up to the early 19th century. Also, as very few Presbyterian churches had or have a graveyard attached, the practice of recording burials was not widespread and the number of registers recording these details are few.'
RootsIreland is a subscription site (you can take out a sub for short terms) I looked to see what Presbyterian records are available for Bailieborough and there are only marriages for 1845 - 1920, however marriages across religions did take place so do not confine yourself to Presbyterian records only. Sometimes you will get a bit more information on the church records that are not on the civil records the following is an example of this:

This is his marriage:
Party 1 Name PATRICK HANNA Party 2 Name MARY MCPHILLIPS Date of Event 10 July 1911 Group Registration ID1868183SR District/Reg Area Bailieborough
On irishgenealogy.ie there are 11 marriages, 22 births & 8 deaths for that surname in Bailieborough, by searching these you may find reference to people that may take you back a bit further.
There are two books on Presbyterianism for the Bailieborough area. Please see this link:https://www.bailiepublications.com/books.html they can be purchased online.
There is a Presbyterian graveyard in Urcher, Bailieborough and there Mary Jane, Robert & their son William James Hanna who died in 1973 are buried.
I have a subscription to the newspaper archives and I did search for the people you mentioned but without success.
I hope you have success in finding your family and that I have given you some additional ideas to find them

Thanks so much - this is very helpful info. I might get a roots ireland subscription and check the Church of Ireland records in more detail. I hand't seen that extra information on John and Rose's marriage so that's very helpful too.
Thanks again,
Evie

Hello Evie
I have been looking for the exact same people and came across your post out sheer frustration and just googled 'Essy Campbell, Courkesh.
I actually have some documents that you might be interested in - a transcript of John Hanna joining the Catholic Church on the day he married Rose. I also have the extract from their marriage register as well as a birth certificate for Rose Hand, all of which I'm will to send you if you are interested. And I'm also very interested to know if you have found anything on John sr and Essy
