My 3rd freat-grandfather, PeterBarrett immigratted from around Ballycastle Mayo in 1828 or 1829. His parents were James Barrett and Bridget Larkin. The Tithe Applotment Book shows James Barrett in Diocese of Killalla, Parish of Kilbride, Carrownedin and Lower Carracur. I am staying in the area (Ballina) on May 26th in hopes discovering something about them and seeing Carrownedin. Can anyone tell me what Catholic church they may have attended, where they may be buried or if any descendants stayed in the area?

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of hosuehold listing for Kilbride parish lists the following Barrett records. There is a James Barrett in Kilbride and a Patrick and Thomas Barrett in Carroweden. Are Patrick and Thomas related to your James and the James in Kilbride townland a different person?

Regarding churches, in 1837 there was a chapel in Ballycastle and also in Belderrig. I believe the chaepl in Ballycastle was the home church for people in Kilbride parish.
