This post is to ask if anyone has heard about the Langridge family owning an estate in County Wicklow in the 1860s, 1870s or 1880s. There is a story in my family told by my great grandfather, Cecil Balcombe Langridge, born in 1866 in Lewes, Sussex, England, that his family owned a large estate in County Wicklow. Cecil spent a lot of his childhood there. He said he was born there (he wasn’t) and there were a lot of gypsies nearby and they taught Cecil how to poach using gypsy ways because they were living on the estate. Cecil’s father was William Kirby Johnson Langridge and his mother was Emily Langridge née Monk. Both were born and lived and died in Lewes, Sussex, England. Cecil’s grandfather was William Vidler Langridge. The two Williams were both Justices of the Peace for the County of Sussex. They owned quite a bit of real estate and were quite wealthy but to date I have not found any reference to property in Ireland. Any thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated. Jennifer.

Hello again, I have a couple of questions. Why did you include the files on the Henry Langrish Property in galway and the the sales 1856 Galway? Are they to indicate the kind of information available?
I have confirmation from another source that Powerscourt could be the estate. Even though our name is Langridge and may have been Langrish many many years ago, I know of no link between the families. Do you know of anyone who specializes in these estates and could dig into any records they might have. If my family spent as much time there as indicated, their name must be on some of the household documentation.

The answer to the 1st question is Yes. The Landed Estates indicate the history of the various families and their connections.
You would need to contact the Manager at Powerscourt to ascertain if there are any records for the period in question stored there..
Other than having visited the property, I have no knowledge of what is available.

Attached some records in relation to families named Langridge in County Wicklow in the 1870's.
I have been unable to get details on the Civil records.
Marriage of Robert in 1877 to Margaret Donnelly in Arklow Church of Ireland church.
No property records found.

Google Christ Church, Bray, Co. Wicklow where there is a plaque in memory of those who died in WW1.
Albert E Langridge died as a result of injuries suffered at the battle of the Somme and is recorded as 18 years of age and a gardener in Killruddery Estate.
