Hello. I have traces two ancestors back to Galway. Patrick was born about 1842 and Bridget in about 1844. Patrick was in the 59th regiment of foot from 1859 to 1881. he served in Cape Town, Ceylon, East Indies and Afghanistan. I can't find any marriage certificate for them, but luckily found a baptism registration for MaryAnn, my great grandmother. The place of residence is Fairhill, and when Patrick left the army, his address was 23 Fairhill Road, Galway. The family story was that Maryann and her sister, Margaret, disliked their stepmother, and emigrated to Australia in 1887. Their brother, William, also in the army, followed them about 10 years later. Family stories have it that Patrick ran a hat shop. I know William was born in the East Indies in about 1873 ( according to his army records), but I am unsure if Margaret was born there also, or if Bridget died there. Is there any information that you lovely people might have to fill in the gaps? Thanks, Jo Hall

  • Jo:

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and could not find the baptismal record for Mary Scully. Where did you locate the record. You also mentioned a stepmother. When did Bridget Kilroy die?

  • I found the birth registration on Irishgenealogy i.e ; And I can't find any records for the death of Bridget. Because Patrick served in India with the army, she may have died there. I am  just searching everywhere for information!
