I would be grateful for any help or advice in where I can go to find out as much as I can here is what I have so far. John kidney (ggg grandfather ) married Mary bourke in St. John's church limerick in 1841, their son John kidney ( gg grand father ) married Mary scanlon in Waterford in the holy trinity church in 1872, their son Edward was born in Waterford in 1874:Edward(ggrandfather  married Mary walshe in limerick ,they had a son in April 1899 whose name was Edward who was my grandad)he married Bridget Byrnes in 1920 they had 3 children before Bridget died in 1927 , then my grandad married Bridget Ryan from Tulsa co Clare in 1330 sbridget Ryan died in 1970 then my grandad died in 1976.so what I am trying to do is find out more about John kidney whom married mary bourke in st john church in 1841, I work back from the family grave but it hard finding out about my ggg grandfather John kidney who his parents were and where did he come from.it seems John, Edward and James were really common names back then so please if anyone can help me out as to where I need to go to find out more, Also I have notice that my family moved about a bit but not quiet sure where we actually come from.

  • Mary:

Regarding a baptismal record for your ggg grandfather John Kidney, there is no record in Co. Limerick on Roots Ireland. The earliest Co. Limerick John Kidney baptismal record is the 1851 record for your gg grandfather.  There are four John Kidney baptismal records in Co. Cork in the 1810s but there is no way to confirm any of these records unless you discover his parents names. Very possible he was baptized in a Co. Limerick parish that no longer has records back to the early part of the 19th centtury.

  • Mary, If you join rootsireland for a day or a week, you can see the names of the witnesses to the Kidney baptisms.  These people were usually siblings or close relatives of the child's parents. Researching them may be helpful.  Good luck.
