Do you have any other information? For instance, what were the names of James's children?  Knowing the names of the first couple of children might help us identify the names of James's parents.

What document gave you  his birth date? I've looked at irishgenealogy.ie and rootsireland.ie and have not found a James Bastable baptized near the date you give.

If you can get James's marriage certificate, his parents' names might be on it.

I typed out a reply and got interrupted and I cannot find it so if you get two I apologize.

His birth date I got from his cemetery records in NZ as well as various police records. His death date from cemetery records in NZ as well as a copy of his death cert   NZ B.D.M Registry. Place of his birth I got from his death cert, sorry that was County Kerry NOT Cloyne, but no parents were mentioned. He had no will so no probate. His parents name was given to me but if I cannot confirm it I will not record it so it may very well be wrong.

He got married in NZ to Louisa Isable Allen b 7 Sep 1844 London, England no parents mentioned. He came to NZ in 1863, the boat leaving from England. Name of boat unknown so no passenger list.

All his children were born in NZ and I can give them to you but will probably not be any use to you.

I did not mention his baptism date because it is not always close to birth date and may be years later as mine was.

All this info has been confirmed from various records and is correct.
