Hello everyone! My last name is Finnessy which from what I understand used to be Ó'Fionnghussa. Im trying to find any relatives I might have still living in Ireland, as my family left during the famine. They left from Tipperary/Southern Ireland and came to Baltimore, MD if that helps at all, and the ancestor that left, Patrick Finnessy, was my 3rd great grandad

This was a common name in Tipperary. Can you provide any other information? Names of his parents and of his children?
You mention Tipperary/Southern Ireland--does this mean you are not sure he was from Tip?
Any details you can provide might be of assistance.
Thanks.
Patricia

Hello,
I found many public family trees on Ancestry that include this couple. It looks like Patrick was born in Tip about 200 years ago and that all of his and Catherine's children were born in Maryland.
My guess is that most Irish people would not be aware of a connection to a man who emigrated so many generations ago, no more than we would know about who lived in our neighborhoods two hundred years ago. Perhaps a DNA test would be the "easiest" way to see if there are still relatives in Ireland.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
Patricia
