Hello,

My 2nd great granparents were:

James Landerkin, born 7 May 1860 in Ireland, parents unknown, died 16 Nov 1941 in Maryland USA

Mary Redmond, born Ireland, date unknown circa 1870, Fathers names is Nicholas Redmond, died 24 May 1937 in Maryland, USA

Mary is reported to have arrived in the US 1883-1884, James in 1890

They were married in 1891somewhere in the US and arrived in Maryland USA and lived in the same home until they passed.

I am having no luck with finding any family for James but I have a possible birth match to Mary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I looked up your James Landerkin in the U.S. censuses and saw that his first two children were Thomas and Catherine.  I then searched for him on rootsireland, putting Thomas and Catherine as his parents' names.  This is what came up:

    James Landerkin

     Baptism: 21-May-1857

    Lived at Kilmagar

    RC Parish of CLARA

     Co. Kilkenny

    Parents: Thomas Landerkin, Catherine Nolan

    Sponsors: John Kelly  Catherine Dunphy

Your James was said to be born in May 1860.  But years and ages, etc., are often inexact in the records.  This could be your James, but you'd need to find another record giving his parents' names.  Perhaps his marriage record?

  • The baptismal record for James and Mary's child Catherine can be found at Findmypast. Here's the link (you have to belong to FMP to see it).

    https://search.findmypast.com/record?id=S2%2FUS%2FBALT%2FHD02%2FBOX03%2…

It states that James was from Kilkenny and Mary was from Wexford.

    I hope this is helpful.
