Hello,
I'm looking for information about my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Dennis McNamara. He was born in Kildorrery, Cork in 1802. He immigrated to Cumberland County, Nova Scotia around 1830 and became a farmer. I don't have names of his parents, or information on any of his siblings. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello Fiona and welcome to Ireland Reaching Out
Parish records for Kildorrery in the Diocese of Cloyne do not begin until 1803 for marriages and May 1824 for Baptisms
Do you know if he married before he left Cork for Nova Scotia
I have searched Griffith Valuations for the name McNamara and the Tithe Applopment books but no luck
Historic Graves have surveyed the graveyards in Kildorrey - this is the link Kildorrery | Historic Graves
I have also searched the 1901 Irish census for the name McNamara but no luck either
I will keep looking
Have you any records at all from Ireland re the family
Thanks
Geraldine

Yes, I do have a bit of info!
Dennis came to Nova Scotia around the 1830s. He married in Parrsboro in 1832, and had a farm with his wife and 12 children. He's buried at St Brigid's cemetary in Parrsboro, NS. I recently read "Historical Notes: Parrsboro and Vicinity" by DJ Taylor, a resident of Parrsboro, written in 1900. Its a detailed account of many early settler families from the Parrsboro area and lists his children and some grandchildren in detail. I've been tracing my geneology but hit a dead end at Dennis, as I have no info about his parents, or his actual date of birth. I just know he was born in 1802 and then left Ireland for NS. He may have had a sister named Mary? I found info about a Mary McNamara from Ireland in NS born around 1805 that migragted to NS around the same time he did, but I know the name Mary is extremely common, and I haven't found much else about her.
Thank you for your help!
