Hello
I have the civil death record of whom I believe is my ancestor Patrick McLean, who died in 1872. The record is from the district of Ballycastle in the Union of Killala in County Mayo and under his date of death it says 'Lisprin' which I assume is where he lived but I have tried to Google it and I am confused by the results. 'Lisbrin' has come up as the townland in Doonfeeny Civil Parish in Ballycastle ED. Is this the right place? and what is the difference between the district and a civil parish? Also what does ED stand for? I have attached the document for you to view
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance
Kind regards
Karen Coatsworth.

Hi Karen,
You ask..........
'Lisbrin' has come up as the townland in Doonfeeny Civil Parish in Ballycastle ED. Is this the right place?
##
Yes that is correct.
This map shows Librin in blue, Ballycastle is south and looks like the biggest town.
Lisbrin Townland, Co. Mayo (townlands.ie)and what is the difference between the district and a civil parish? Also what does ED stand for?
##
The ED Electoral District, for Voting. This usually the nearest town to the townland.
Civil Parish is where the main Parish is,This link would explain all Civil Parishes in Ireland.
List of civil parishes of Ireland - WikipediaThen you have a Diocese. eg. Diocese of Killoloe coves parts of Counties Tipperary, Clare and Limerick
The site where you got Patrick's death record, these are Registration Districts. Some have changed over the years.
Earlier records list under Barony, Union and DED which is Division Electoral District.
Hope this helps
