We seek information on our great great (maternal) grandparents Peter Clarkin b 1806 and Elizabeth/Betsy O'Hara/O'Hare b 1820 (years of birth yet to be confirmed). They were among the first settlers to what became Kelly's Cross, Prince Edward Island from County Monaghan.

 

There are 2 entries in the Tithe Applotment Books in 1830 for Peter Clarkin in County Monaghan - Coolekill East and Maharnaharn, Parish Ematris in each case.

 

They had one daughter Mary Clarkin, born in PEI; Mary married our great grandfather Edward/Ned Kelly b 1847 (who was a PEI born son of other  County Monaghan emigrants (1839-40), Edward Kelly b  1806 and Ann Boylan in 1839-40, with mother Mary Kelly and brothers Arthur b 1819 and John 1820). 

 

Further,  we seek information on a "Sally" Alice Clarkin b 1840 (?). She was the first wife of Michael Kiggins b 1812 in Ireland. Once again, the Kiggins were among the early settlers to Kelly's Cross.

 

We would appreciate any help that can be offered in our search.

    I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a marriage record for Peter Clarkin and Elizabeth O'Hare. Also no baptismal records for children of that couple.

    For Sally Alice Clarkin, I presume her first name was Sarah. I searched for baptismal records for a Sarah Clarkin and located three possible leads, however, two of the three records were in Donagh RC parish. For the years 1837-1841, the priest for some reason did not record the names of the parents so the records are worthless for genealogical purposes. The one record of interest was a June 11 1838 baptismal reocrd for a Sarah Clerkin in the Monaghan town RC parish. The father was Andrew Clerkin and the mother Mary Connolly.

    Regarding Michael Kiggins, the earliest record I can find was in 1821 in Co. Galway which appears to be too late for your purposes.

    Bernard Kiggins age 88yrs Died 22nd November 1929 in Carlton, Ontario Father Michael Kiggins and Mother Alice Clarken (Married at tme of Death).  Birth Place Charlottetown, P.E.I.

     

    Mary Clakin Baptism 7th May 1855 Kellys Cross P.E.I. Canada Mary Clarkin married 6th May 1867 St.Ann's (Desable) R.C. Emyvale Lot 65 (Died in Childbirth Son Martin Kelly 1895) Married Edward Kelly Born 4th May 1847 P.E.I. Died after 1920 P.E.I.

    Mother of Edward Kelly Born 1806 in Ireland name given was Mary Donagh (No Birth Date given) Died May 1848 St.Josephs Kelly Cross, P.E.I.
