Letitia Coulter / Alexander Glover

There were two Glovers listed in Griffith's Valuation of Fermanagh in 1862:

1. Glover Charlotte T/lisbellaw/main Street   Cleenish Co. Fermanagh
2. Glover William T/lisnaskea/main Street   Aghalurcher Co. Fermanagh.

I did not find Alexander or Letitia in the baptismal or marriage records on rootsireland.  I did not find their civil marriage record at irishgenealogy.ie. Are you sure they married in Ireland??

You haven’t said what denomination the family was but my guess would be Church of Ireland. A problem you face is that the early Church of Ireland records for Enniskillen were destroyed in the 1922 fire in Dublin and so if that’s where they were baptised in the 1840s, the records are lost.

Marriage records post 1845 are intact and, as Patricia has said, I can find no trace of the couple marrying in Ireland (or in England. I have seen a few couples for Australia and New Zealand marrying in England just before their departure).

Thank you for your assistance. I forgot to say that there is the name Thompson and Blair in the children’s second names. I have no proof to where they married but their places of birth and marriage are as they stated on their children’s birth certificates. I do not know the denomination of the family. They are proving extremely difficult to find. Being my childrens family name I was hoping to get further. Thank you again . Pam

There aren’t many Glovers in the 1901 census of Fermanagh but the 2 families that are listed were Church of Ireland (ie Anglican). Coulter is a lot more common with over 200. Most are again Church of Ireland with a few Methodists (who would have been COI earlier in the 1800s), a few Catholics, a handful of Presbyterians and the odd Brethren. But, by far, Church of Ireland is the most common denomination. 

Whatever the denomination, a marriage c 1869 -1872 should be in the Irish statutory records. But I can’t find it.

Possibly DNA testing may be a way of matching with others who have additional information about where the family originate. Family Tree DNA reportedly has more people with Ulster roots than any other company. That obviously increases the chances of finding a match. You might want to try them or, if you have already tested, you can transfer your results to them for no fee.

The 4 surnames you have listed are all settler surnames, so it’s likely that the families all originated in Scotland and/or England and moved to Fermanagh in the 1600s as part of the Plantation.
