Hi. My mum and me have been trying to find information on her grandfather but have really struggled, she has always been told that he was born in Tuam or somewhere in Galway and he and his brother left there to come to England. All we know is his name was Patrick Caveney and he was born around 1874 to 1876.

If anyone could help in any way that would be great

The surname may have been Keaveny. There are a number of civil birth possibilities in the 1870s in Co. Galway. What was his brother's name and was he older or younger. If the brother's first name is somewhat rare (Andrew, Martin, etc), we might be able to narrow down the potential records.

  • Hi Roger. Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly. His brother's name was John (known as Jack) so unfortunately not very rare, I think John was slightly older but would have to double check

No idea if I have the correct family. They come from the area around Glennamaddy. Father was Patrick and mother was Mary and her maiden name was also Keaveny. John was born in 1870 and Patrick in 1874.

  • Hi Roger

Sorry for the slow response, I have been away for a while. Thank you so much for your response, this does look feasible. I have passed the information on to my mum and she and her cousin are looking into the dates, etc but it does seem possible that they are the correct family
