I am seeking information related to the Irish background/family of my grandmother on my father's side of the family, Annie Marion Ryan. She immigrated as a 'Remittance' passenger from Ireland on the SS Dorunda, arriving in Rockhampton Queensland Australia 28 February 1891. She married my grandfather Harry Derrington at Rockhampton 27 September 1892. Their Marriage Certificate shows her being born in Dublin, but Dublin, North or South, is not shown. A Birth date for her in Dublin is not found, with her birth being estimated at 1870/71. Neither is a Birth date or Marriage date for both her parents Ellen Ryan born Maloney and William Ryan, carpenter. Her Death Certificate 20 February 1952 offers no extra information. Immigration and Passenger List records online from Queensland State Archives show that from the ship's passenger manifest, there was a John Ryan (only about 9 years older than Annie) and his wife Winifred with daughter Bridget and another infant daughter Mary (Lena) who sadly perished on the voyage out (they immigrated as 'Assisted' passengers). The manifest shows for Annie that she was 'to go to her uncle in Mount Morgan' which was a small mining town near Rockhampton. This may be the person who arranged and paid for Annie's passage to Australia. John Ryan's entry states 'to go to his brother in Mount Morgan'. So Annie was the niece of John Ryan and his unnamed brother. They were all born in Ireland and there are no records that I can find of this relationship. Thus, the records indicate that this Ryan family is related to William Ryan, Annie's father, both brothers of his, as they share the same surname and relationship. The ship's manifest shows that John Ryan and his family along with Annie came from Tipperary at the start of their journey to Australia. Irish records relating to Annie's parents William and Ellen, the uncle she came to in Australia and her uncle John and his family who came with her seem impossible to locate online with so many sharing similar names. I know that the answers are buried in the Irish records but can't find the key to open the door. My brother and I would appreciate assistance. Thank you for reading my story.
