Hello
I am researching my Murphy family and have come across the house books from 1842 for the townland of Belmullet in the parish of Annagh and barony of Costello in county Mayo. I have looked on townlands.ie and the only Belmullet townland is in the barony of Erris in the parish of Kilcommon. Was there a townland of Belmullet in Annagh in 1842 and has it changed its name? or was Belmullet classed as being in the parish of Annagh in 1842? I am planning to travel to Ireland to the areas my ancestors came from in the next year or two.

I dont see any mention of a parish on those pages - in the description on each page it lists 'Town of Belmullet' and various streets, Barrack street, Carter square and William street, I can see a Barrack street and Carter Square still in the town of Belmullet Co. Mayo..
The Annagh listed as the parish on the transcripts seems to be an error, possibly carried over from a previous entry, the first page in the book for Belmullet town mentions the town and county, but no Parish or Barony.Shane Wilson, IrelandXO Volunteer ☘

The civil parish of Annagh is over 100km (~60 miles) south east of the town of Belmullet, and includes the town of Ballyhaunis.
The civil parish for Belmullet town is Kilcommon (Erris) and the Barony is Erris - there's more than one civil parish named Kilcommon in County Mayo so the Barony is often listed as part of the civil parish to distinguish is from the other Kilcommons.
The older Tithe records (c1834) list Belmullet as Kilcommon parish.Shane Wilson, IrelandXO Volunteer ☘
