Hello, I am looking for any information on my great great grandfather's family. James Monaghan/Monihan was born circa 1812 in Siddan County Meath. He married circa 1837 to Anne Brennan who was also born in Siddan circa 1814. They immigrated to Australia in 1841. Jame's Parents are Henry Monaghan/Monihan who died before 30/8/1841 and Bridget McCabe who was also deceased before James left in 1841. Anne Brennan's parents are Christopher Brennan and Mary Mullins. Any help or idea where I could look would be very much appreciated. I am hoping to travel to Ireland next year and would like to visit the area where my family lived.

Siddan civil parish is in northeast Co. Meath and the related RC parish is Lobinstown. The records for Lobinstown RC parish start in 1823. I was unable to locate baptismal records for James and Anne (or any siblings) and for some reason I did not locate the marriage record. I was unable to find a Tithe record for Henry Monaghan or Christopher Brennan. The Griffiths Valuation records from 1853 showed two Christopher Brennan records in Co. Meath but they were in parishes a good deal from Siddan so I do not believe they have any connection to your Christopher Brennan. The Griffiths for Siddan parish did not show any Monaghan records but there was a George Brennan who lived in Howthstown townland.
Civil registration did not begin until 1864 and Lobinstown RC parish does not have any pre-1864 death records.
Have you considered DNA testing? Possibly you will have matches with 3rd or 4th cousins on your Monaghan/Brennan line and they may have more information on your family.

The only record I have been able to find is the baptism of James and Anne's daughter Bridget in the RC Church Lobinstown in 1838. Along with 5 of my siblings, we have all had our DNA tested. We have received some matches from cousins that are from Canada, Bermuda and Bahamas, but no names in their lines are the same as ours, so we don't know where the match is.
Do you think it would be of any help if I joined a local Family History Group?

Thanks again Roger. I have already sent our data to Gedmatch and that is where I have had replies from other possible cousins from other countries. These cousins all have ancestors from Ireland, but none of their names match any names I have, so nothing I can go on for further information.
