Hello,
My husband's gg-grandfather William (Isaac?) Plover was born in 1837 and according to his naturalization record, came from Co Galway. A William Plover is recorded on the Ireland Sustainability Loan Fund record as having lived in Garraun/ Gurane in July of 1846, and having died in Spring of 1848.
Our known William Plover emigrated in 1855, at about age 18.
Anyway, someone showed me this record years ago, and we promptly started looking in Loughrea, but now I'm finally noticing the Garraun connection.
Here's hoping! =D

I searched for a baptismal record for a William Plover or Isaac Plover on the subscription site Roots Ireland but did not find a record. Most of the Plover baptismal records were in East Galway parishes (you didn't mention the religious denomination). I checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation records and all of the Plover records were in one civil parish-- Kilconicky. This parish is just to the west of Loughrea.
FYI there are about 20 townlands in Co. Galway called Garraun.
You may want to consider DNA testing. You may get matches with 4th cousins on your Plover line who have more info on the origins of the family in Co. Galway.

Thank you, Roger, for the reply! (I don't know why, but I only just got the notice of your reply today...)
Anyway, your idea of DNA would be wonderful, and I would have done it already years ago, but it's not my family, but my husband's and (to my heartache) NO ONE in his family will test! He has a Plover surname uncle - a direct line, which would help so much! -- but I'm stuck hoping and praying that one of them will test someday...
Thanks for the tip about there being many Garrauns... sigh.
As for the Griffith's Plovers all being in KIlconickny, I did know that already, before I learned of the Garraun William Plover, but the fact of it being the same first name, I just thought that the Garraun one sounded much more likely...
Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions! =)LL

We had a systems problem for about ten weeks which delayed sending notifications on comments made on messages which explains why you were told very late about my comment.
