John Madden
Born 1842 Died after 1911 (on 1911 Ireland Census when aged 69)
He was my great grandfather - lived in the township of Gorteenphadder (house 3), Portumna, Galway.
John Madden appeared in the 1901 census at the above address. He had 4 children according to the census, Michael aged 23 (my grandfather,) James 18, John 16 and a daughter Ellen 14. However, he is shown as a widower. His son Michael, my grandfather, was the subject of a message from 'Kevin' in 2013.
He appears in the 1911 census still in Gorteenphadder, (living at house 5,) with 2 children, John and Ellen. He is now shown as married. James and Michael are not recorded. Michael married in Roscrae in June 1906, and emigrated to Liverpool some time between 1906 and 1908, where my father Patrick Joseph was born in 1908. Michael Madden also had a daughter, Mary Bridget, born 1910. They lived in Regent Street and Gildart’s Gardens in Liverpool in the north docks area of Great Howard Street, Vauxhall Road and Scotland Road. I would like to find out his wife’s name and maiden name.
Any help much appreciated.

Charlie,
Not sure which wife you meant. The first wife, the mother of Ellen Madden, was Winifred Mahon.

Hello Patricia
First of all my deepest apologies for so late a response. I was alerted only a day or two to your message, for which I am very grateful. I needed these details to gather the necessary BMD certificates for an application for Irish citizenship, as my four grandparents were Irish and we have strong family links in Sligo. I'm nearly there. Once again many thanks for your help.
