Hello Terri - I came across your posts while researching (always researching) my great-grandmother's roots. I have been researching for years now and as you must know there are so many people with the same names its really impossible although I don't give up hope.
I see that you are looking for Michael Kelly's. I also am searching for Sarah Kelly with a father Michael. My Sarah Kelly was born 1852/3 in Queens County. I have a copy of the marriage certificate, they were married in Manchester, England and it shows Michael as father, occupation Bricklayer. I too have searched all of Ancestry and I see you have come up with some of the same people as me - Catherine Beirne or Burns and this is the closest I have got. I even had a researcher on Ancestry who has used my Sarah Kelly history onwards which I don't think is the right person although it might indicate that the family were living in Liverpool at that time.
I thought I had a connection to a family called Foey. William and Dinah were witnesses at the wedding of Sarah Kelly to Williiam Mather in Manchester and William and Sarah witnesses at the wedding of William and Dinah Wardle. I found that Dinah's mother was called Catherine Kelly although it didn't get me any further. I have all but given up with the researching as I've been at it for years. I wish I had asked my own grandmother questions while she was still alive but I was young and not interested in history. My grandmother was called Sarah Jane, maybe after her mother.

RootsIreland gives the following baptism for a Sarah Kelly with father Michael in Laois (Queens). While the year is not 1852/53, don't discount this record. There are often discrepancies in people's ages in old records.
Sarah Kelly, bap. 1 April 1857 in RC parish of Raheen, Co. Laois.
Parents: Essy White, Michael Kelly

Sarah had two older siblings, Mary and John, also born in Raheen parish. The mother's full name was Esther White.

Hello Marie. Sorry for any delay in responding. I just saw your post. Unfortunately I know nothing of a Sarah Kelly. My Michael Kelly (or Kelley), I believe, comes from County Leitrim, Ireland and was a farmer. I wish you continued good luck in your search.

Thank you all for the replies on my great-gran Sarah Kelly. I've taken on board the year maybe wrong so will give some time to searching in 1857 and will come back to you if I find anything. Actually the name Essy White has come up a few times in my searching. What threw me on the dates was that I have her birth on her marriage papers was shown as age 21 in June 1873 in Manchester and this is what has hindered my searching. I think she could only have been in Manchester a short time, the only proof was that she was a witness in Oct 1872 at a friend (or family if I could find the connection) and she married herself in June 1873.
I will let you know if I eventually find her, thanks again.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The more I look and research I'm getting more convinced that some of you are right and my Sarah's mother may have been Esther White. I'm not sure how to finally prove that she is the right mother but everything points to the right person.
Thank you all again for your help and I will continue trying to find a family connection now.
