Hello

I had received an email from ireland.xo about graveyards and searching for your ancestors. It did say that a lot of graves were unmarked and that it was often the case that whole families would use the same grave, and that there was often a local who was familiar with all the residents would know where certain families were buried. I was wondering if this is the case? And if so, can you tell me if there would be anyone in the Belmullet township who would have this sort of knowledge?

Thank you in advance,

Karen Coatsworth.

  • Karen,

If you Google Funeral Directors in Belmullet you may get some information in relation to local graveyards.

You will need to supply the years and the names - First and Surname and address - of the people you are interested in, as many will have similar names.

Civil records are free at  www.irishgenealogy.ie  are from January 1864, but unfortunately many deaths were never recorded.

The local Parish Secretary may help here.

    Regards,

    McCoy
