Looking for information on the Flynn family thought to be from Tralee or surrounds, particularly Mary Flynn born around 1860.  Mary was the first wife of my great-grandfather Patrick Dillon who she married in 1894 in London; they quickly returned to Kerry for the birth of their first child.

Mary's husband Patrick was a "horse-trainer" and his short biography has been submitted here.  Mary's father Patrick Flynn was also a "horse-trainer" according to their marriage certificate.  Mary died shortly after the birth of her third child George.  I think I have a death register record but I cannot find any evidence of a burial.  I would really appreciate any information as I am attempting to write a family history and Mary is a vital part.

More recently, through newspaper archives I have found that Mary Flynn had an uncle Michael who must have been born around 1818.  He lived to be over 90 and was known to be a great raconteur and was still following hounds around Tralee in his late 80's.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located a January 15 1860 baptism (born January 9) for a Mary Flynn with father Patrick and mother Catherine Griffin. The RC parish was Ardfert which is just to the northwest of Tralee parish. They lived in Ballinvoher which is a townland in the civil parish of Ardfert. I did not locate any baptismal records for siblings.I also did not find a marriage record.

  • Thank you so much, the find is entirely logical and one I will attempt to follow up on.  Strangely the Griffin family feature in the family of Patrick Dillon's second marriage.  Perhaps it is not so strange considering the period and the fact the families appear to entwine on many occasions.

    Thank you again.

  • I am curious who are your Dillon (Dillane) lineage, or family tree. We are connected with John Dillon who married Ellen Cussen, they came to Hibbert Township, Ontario Canada. We are in the making of our family book from John to our last baby born. So now we are trying to find the information on John and Ellen's lineage. It's always a pleasure to connect. • Marcel,

how lovely to hear from you and I apologise for the delay but I keep getting disturbed.

My Dillon family originate in Listowel County Kerry.  The earliest ancestor I can verify is John, so let us start at the beginning with facts that I can guarantee.  I have begun biographies on various relations and am working on others.

John Dillon (Dillane)  born around 1835 which is a guess based on the age of his son.  Place of birth unknown.

    his son

Patrick Dillon born 1857/1861 depending on records.  Place of birth Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland.

    His son

John (Jack) Dillon born 1901.  Place of birth Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland.

    His son

Dennis Dillon born 1929.  Place of birth Epsom, Surrey, England.

    His daughter (me)

Katherine (Kate) Dillon born 1962.  Place of birth Epsom, Surrey, England.

Do your Dillon's have any connections with Listowel/ Tralee areas?

    all the best
