My husband’s Croal ancestors moved to Coatbridge in Scotland in the late 1840s to find work in the Iron Works of the town. We are fairly sure they came from Leitrim from records we have. Family first names were Francis, Edward, James, Thomas and Patrick though I appreciate these would be very common for the time. We will be visiting Leitrim from 11th to 16th Sept 2022 and would be very interested in any information about Croals who may still live in the area, or where Croals may be buried (Mullies?)

Coatbridge Jen:
Likely your Croal ancestors came from one of the civil parishes in North Leitrim: Killasnet or Rossinver. Records for the RC parishes in North Leitrim start in 1851 or later so too late for your ancestors. Do you have the name of the father of the family that moved to Scotland? Possibly there is a record in the Tithe listings.
