Ruth:
I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and located one lead. Located a baptismal record for a Hubert Matimer (as transcribed) with father James Matimer and mother Anne Kilbane. The RC parish was Kiltoghert Records for that parish go back to 1827 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0152 so I'm not sure where the rest of the baptisms occurred. I did not find James Mortimer in the 1857 Griffiths Valuation.

Thank you and Yes I did find the Hubert Matimer and although a possibility the names are not spelled correctly Also not only can I not find a baptism certificate but there is no record of a marriage (and they ere very Catholic) or a immigration record for any of the them Jane. Bernard or Patrick. They all came over in different years. My g-grandmother's marriage certificate (NYC Jane1885) Both her and Bernard were here both writing their name Mortimer Mystery my family has been trying to solve for 20 years! We just don't know where to look next
Thanks for your help

Ruth:
I located the marriage record. Anne Gilban married James Matymore April 20 1846 at Kiltoghert RC church No witnesses shown
I can't explain the gap in records from 1846-1856
Using Matymore I went back to Roots Ireland and found baptismal records for Patrick Mattimore baptized April 27 1856 father James Mattimore and mother Anne Kilbane
Also found Anne M.Mattimore baptized April 18 1858 same parents Is Anne Jennie?
Also found Bryan Mattemore (Bryan and Bernard are interchangeable) baptized March 11 1860 same parents
Also found Peter Mattinmore baptized September 21 1862 same parents
Also found John Mattimore baptized October 29 1864 same parents (I did not find a civil birth record).
Looks like they changed their surname when they came to America.
One last item. Roots had a second baptismal record for Hubert-April 26 1854 in Kiltoghert which I think is the correct date.

Ruth:
I went back to the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and found a James Mattimore in Carrickslavan townland in Kiltoghert civil parish. This must be where your family lived.
1901 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Leitrim/Gowel/Carrickslavan/1485311/ James must have been born in the gap period from 1846-1856 and John was born in 1864 so he understated his age
1911 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Leitrim/Gowell/Carrickslavin/653350/
I did not find a death record for James Sr. or Anne and also none for James Jr. or John. We don't know if their deaths were civilly recorded and how the surname was spelled.

Great job Roger!
Most Mortimers (Mortimar, Mortimore, Mortimoore, Mortimeure, Mortimeur, Mortimour etc) were originally Mac/Ó Muircheartaigh and often turn up as Murtagh.
Ó Maolmuaidh on the other hand, often anglicized Mattimoe (also Millmoe) is a rarer surname particular to Co. Roscommon (Carrick sits on its border) hence Mattimore, Mattymore, Mattemore, Mattinmore and more.
Kate ... we'd love if you added Jane and her parents to our Kiltoghert Ancestors Roll Call and reconnected them to Carrickslavan.
