Griffith's Valuation published in 1852 records Bridget Fitzgerald living in County Limerick, Mahoonaghmore and provides a map reference 2A. Can anyone please tell me the approximate distance between that location and the village of Mahoonagh/Castlemahon? I assume that her husband Martin died during the famine and she lived alone. The House Book of July 1850 says that the length of her dwelling was 22', width 17' and height 6.6' Would this be considered a laborer's cottage? Are there any drawings of this size of dwelling? Thank you for any help that you can give me. Linda

Margot - thanks for your response. My information came from Griffith's Valuation House Book 15 Mar 1851 (published in 1852, I believe) but these specifics came from a House Book in 1851 for Bridget Fitzgerald. Also, she appears two other times: a House Book in July 1850 and in a Tenure Book July 1849.
My husband and I were in Castlemahon in June (2022) and I am aware that the village is/was also called Mahoonagh. I did not know when I was visiting that the Griffith's Valuation record referenced a map. It identified Bridget Fitzgerald's cottage as in 2A in Mahoonagh more. My question is the distance of her cottage from Castlemahon/Mahoonagh Village. Thanks again for your response.

The village of Mahoonagh is in the townland of Mahoonagh More, and the location of Bridget's cottage and garden was to the north east and just under 1km from the village - see below :

Thanks, Shane Wilson, for that calculation. So I was less than a mile (as the crow flies) when we were at the Village Bar in Castlemahon in June to where my maternal 2nd great-grandmother was living in 1849-1849. That is so incredible. I assume that if driving, the road would pass right by that cottage were it still in existence. Again, thanks for helping me understand the Griffith's Valuation maps.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME - I WANT TO PRINT SHANE'S INFORMATION BUT THE PRINTER SPITS OUT BLANK PAGES WHEN I TRY TO PRINT SHANE'S MESSAGE. THANKS SO MUCH IF YOU CAN HELP.

Shane Wilson, is there a ring fort on the road from Castlemahon that passes by 2A where Bridget Fitzgerald lived in the 1850s?
