Hello

I am trying to find information about Patrick Culkin, (possibly Culkeen) born (according to my mother) in or near Tuam in 1830. I believe his parents were Michael and Winifred Culkin. He had a brother John Culkin ( possibly more siblings also). He married Sarah Boyle and had emigrated to Liverpool by 1861. He had four children before Sarah died. Winifred ( my great grandmother) , John Patrick, Mary and Sarah. His brother John also emigrated to Liverpool and they lived near to each other. I can find no records in Galway for any of these family members.

There is mention of a Michael Culkin in Griffiths valuation living at Cregcarragh, Lackagh in 1855 but I’m not sure if this is the correct family.

I will be visiting Tuam on Friday 23rd September just to look around. 

Any advice welcome

    Attached is a record for Cregcarra, Lackagh 1845. Father: Michael Culkeen and Mother: Mary Coan.

    The next nearest to Tuam, apart for a record in the Town, is a Patrick Culkeen whose wife is Mary Cahill in the parish of Annaghadown

    on the Galway city side of Tuam. Baptismal Sponsors: Thomas Scahil and Winifred Mulloy -

    I have checked for a marriage of Michael Culkin/Culkeen to Winifred ? Negative.

    Attached a record of the marriage of Patrick Culkeen, Kiltrogue to Honor O'Dea 1858 - Parish of Lackagh.

    Parents names not recorded.

    The surname - Culkeen-Culkin is recorded in the area of Athenry and Bullaun, Loughrea as early as 1821 also.

    it is possible that the family member in Tuam was from the Judge side of the family who are also from Galway.

    John Judge married Ann Laden ( In Galway). John had a brother Patrick born in 1841. Their father is Michael Judge. ( my great, great,great grandfather). Perhaps these are the link to Tuam rather than the Culkin - although the Culkins are from Galway.
