Hi, wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of information on the history of the two old piers around Ballywhoriskey, the one at Oldtown on Tramore Beach and the one at Portnaling. Were they both for the granite quarries? Did the Tramore Beach one get blown up as it was too dangerous? My family from Oldtown, Mary and Susan Sweeney. All gone now. Any history on the granite industry, the quarries, was there a small railway from quarry to pier?
Many Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim,
It's an interesting question, however with myself coming from Kerrykeel and not down near Ballywhorisky it's not one I can answer properly.
I will try and reach out to a few friends that might know abit about the granite works and the piers. It's something I would be interested in post up here on the clondavaddog page.
Hopefully, by next week I might have something...if there's any local history you would like to share, please do🍀
