Hi all

I have added my great grandfather, Daniel Keily (b. Drishane, 1845; d. Wickham (suburb of Newcastle), NSW, 1919) to the database, but the entry hasn't yet been approved.

Daniel had two siblings - Jeremiah Keily (b. 1838, Kerry; d. 1914, Wickham, NSW) and Margaret (b. c. 1840, Ireland; d. c. 1889, Cork).

Daniel m. Annie Mary Smith (b. Carcoar, NSW, to Irish parents from Galway; d. 1916, Wickham, NSW) in St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, in 1883.

Jeremiah m. Mary Ann Page (b, 1848, Raymond Terrace, NSW; d. 1914, Wickham, NSW) in Newcastle, NSW.

Margaret m. Jeremiah Goulding (various spellings) in 1858 in Millstreet, Cork.

I have some information on the lives of the siblings in Ireland up to around 1864, and a lot on the brothers' time in Australia, but I need some on the following, please:

  1. I believe that the brothers may have come out to Australia together, but because of the numbers of spellings of the name, I haven't been able to find out exactly when, where they landed, or in which ship they travelled.
  2. Anything at all about Margaret and Jeremiah Goulding. Again, spelling is something of a challenge! It appears they had at least three children - Margaret (b. 1859; Daniel, b. 1863; John, b. 1866, all in Millstreet, Cork).

I don't know if any of my extended family read this notice board, but if so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could fill in some gaps for me. Very happy to reciprocate.

Cheers,

Lyn Keily

  • Hi Lyn,

I have ancestors with the surname of Goulding.  I understand your frustration with the numerous spellings of the surname.  Have you come across a James Goulding?  It's a long shot because his 2 sons were baptised in Cork City which is a fair way from Millstreet.  He was married to a Julia Hourigan and they had a daughter, Bridget.  She married a Thomas Cooke (born Shropshire, England) and they emigrated to Sydney in 1859.

    Thanks,

  • Many thanks to both of you. I'm sorry I haven't responded before!

I'll chase up the children of Margaret & Daniel.

I haven't found a James Goulding as yet, but I will go and investigate.

Who knows? You and I may be related, Luanne.

    Cheers

    Lyn
