Hello,
I am trying to determine if Patrick Cox (22 May 1865, Ballymagrine, Tarmonbarry, Roscommon) died as an infant in 1865 (there is a record, but no parents given) or married a Mary Boland sometime around 1886. I have been unsuccessful in locating their marriage record that might give me their father's names. The couple had five children: Mary, John (9 Jun 1888), Anne, Patrick, and Joseph (23 Jul 1899); and appear in the 1901 and 1911 censuses living in Ballyhubert, Bumlin, Roscommon. Mary Boland's age and name are different in both records...but she does appear older than her husband. Additionally, I could not find any records in the civil registration for their three remaining children. Patrick Cox is my great granduncle.
Thanks for any help!
Carolyn

Carolyn: I was also unsuccessful in finding a marriage record for Mary Boland and Patrick Cox. Also, did not find civil record for the other three children. I did locate a baptismal record for Eleanor but no baptismal records for Patrick and Anne which is strange. I even searched for all of Ireland with no success. I can see a family not registering a birth civilly but there should be a baptismal record. The Strokestown RC records are available up to 1900 on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I checked the 1855 Griffiths Valuation for Lissonuffy civil parish. only showed a Daniel Cox in Ballyhubert. Possibly Daniel was the father of Patrick but he did not name any of his sons Daniel? Hi Roger, I replied to you when they were working on the site, and it didn't get posted, so here goes again... First off, who is Eleanor? Their eldest child is Mary or Mary Ellen in the trees I have seen. I also asked Mary Skelly of the Roscommon Genealogy Center about their marriage record, and she could not locate one. Patrick's parents are Patrick Cox (abt 1831-1897) and Mary Conboy (1845-1907), and my great grandfather John Cox is their eldest child and sibling to Patrick. Mary also confirmed that "my" Patrick did not die in 1865....that death record is for another child. I cannot be certain, without the marriage record that would give the father's names, if this union between Patrick and Mary Boland is correct for my tree. However, their children's names are quite similar to his own sibling's names. Interesting that you mention Daniel Cox because some of my Irish relations believe him to be the father of Patrick Cox Sr.....they is a birth record for Patrick Cox born 16 Feb 1831 to Daniel Cox and Catherine Fallon. I was not entirely sure it was his father because there are no Daniels at all in that line. Also, the baptism parish is Strokestown, parish variants: Cloonfinlough, Kiltrustan, etc..... Would that make sense for Patrick to end up living in Ballymagrine, Tarmonbarry, Rosc.; but have his start somewhere else? Thanks for any further insight!

Carolyn: Eleanor Cox was baptized August 25 1886 at Kilbarry/Scramoge(Tarmonbarry) parish. Father Patrick Cox and mother Mary Boland. Sponsors were Joseph Saunders and Margaret Boland. We don't have access to the parish registers after February 1881. Mary was shown as age 12 in the 1901 census. In the 1911 census Mary Boland Cox said five children and all five living. Mary and Eleanor must be the same person despite the 1901 census age discrepancy. You also mention that some trees show Mary Ellen which further indicates that Mary and Ellen are the same person. Lissonuffy civil parish borders Termonbarry/Tarmonbarry civil parish. Roger
