Mantua Roscommon in mid 1860s -estate v hamlet?

Note: The main tenant was O. J. L. Grace. Hello Roger. Thank you for your reply. I have been able to determine that there were Gannons as tenants on the Mantua Estate which was owned by Oliver D J Grace in the mid 1800s and that led me to even obtaining prints of the map of the estate showing the plot within the estate where the Gannons lived. As a separate issue, when I am doing the planning for my next visit I must determine how to contact the current owners .... Feeney is their name as I understand it ... I don't want to be so rude as to just appear on their doorstep ... would there be any way I can get a phone number or email address? Anyway, I think I will assume that if Mantua did not become a townland in 1851 then the Mantua referred to in the shipping records would be the estate ... and therefore it is likely that the tenant Gannon is indeed my ancestor. From the links you included I have noted the email address of the Roscommon library ... this is good for me because I will be able to check if they have local newspaper records. Best regards, Doug
