James: Sweeney in the mid-19th century was a very common surname in Ireland. The surname was found in every county but Co. Cork, Co. Donegal and Co. Mayo had the most Sweeney households. I would recommend that you consider a standard DNA test. I would not recommend a Y-DNA test. From the standard test, you will likely get matches to 3rd and 4th cousins. Roger McDonnell

I did get a DNA test by Ancestry. It suggested U came from Donegal , Central Donegal, etc. I had misplaced the info but just found it again.
