Hello. Does anyone know if any of the Kerr family of Swords parish in what was County Dublin stayed there? I am a descendant of Richard and Mary Kerr of Swords parish. I only know of four of their children, one being my ancestor Hugh.

Hugh was born on March 7th 1803, and was baptized on March 13th 1803 in the Church of Ireland, Swords parish. Hugh and his wife Mary had three children in Ireland that I know of by record: Richard Wilson Kerr baptized on August 30th 1829; John Enos Kerr baptized on June 12th 1831; Maryanne Kerr baptized on September 15th 1833. Richard, John and Maryanne were baptized in the Church of Ireland, Swords parish.

Hugh's siblings were: Margaret, baptized on July 12th 1807 in the Church of Ireland, Swords parish; Richard, baptized on April 1st 1810 in the Church of Ireland, Swords parish; William, baptized on Jul 30th 1812 in the Church of Ireland, Swords parish.

In additional information, the mother of Hugh, Margaret, William, and Richard may have been Mary Clegg, although that is not certain.

I know that Hugh (a blacksmith) and his wife and children, and Hugh's brother Richard and his wife and children all came to New York State, over a decade apart. One other Kerr brother (name not found) came to the U.S. as well, going to Illinois perhaps.

Did any of the siblings of Richard Kerr senior stay in Ireland?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Evan Goings

  • Thank you for looking. For my question, I mean more simply did any of the family related to Richard and Mary Kerr stay in Swords or elsewhere in Ireland? Does anyone know more about them?

  • Hi Evan,

I sent your message on to a person in Swords who has a lot of local knowledge. I have just called her and she was looking into it but hasn't had any success so far. She will get back to me if she finds any information.

  • Hi Teresa,

Thank you for trying to find more on the Kerrs, or Carrs, in Swords, County Dublin.

Is it known which of the Kerrs stayed or which of them left?

I know Hugh Kerr came to America. Yet, Hugh may have had a brother who left as well.

Hugh's son was known to have a close cousin named Anna Mary Kerr. She was born in 1833 or 1838 in the state of New York. She moved at some point to the area of Logan County, Illinois. Anna Mary Kerr's parents haven't been found there.

    Best,

    Evan
